Readings: Psalm 8

This week’s Psalm has some powerful imagery in it.

As he writes, David praises God for his majesty, glory, and strength. Our God is a big God. He made the universe, setting the moon and stars in their places (v. 3).

But despite his glory and majesty, God sees fit to use “the praise of infants and children” (v. 2) to silence his enemies.

God uses the weak and insignificant. Nothing is too small for God. He sees us; we are not forgotten.

Despite our failings, God sets us in a place of honor. He is attentive to our everyday comings and goings. God cares for us.

He cares for us so much that, to reinstate our right standing before God, he sent his son to save us.

But rather than a soldier or fighter, God sent a child. God uses the smallest to get our attention.

With the hustle and bustle of the season, may we pay special attention to the small. Surely God is moving among us.

Journal Prompt: Today’s reflection is purposefully short. Meditate more on this Psalm today and throughout the week. What comes to your mind? What is God communicating with you in these last days of Advent?
